As parents, our favourite photos are always the ones where we’re all looking our best, and our children are wildly happy. And that’s why my in-home family photoshoots aren’t about awkward poses or fake smiles. I want to capture real smiles, belly laughs, and tightest-of-squeezes hugs. You know, all the best bits that’ll make you smile whenever you look at them.

So instead of sitting stiffly on the sofa smiling into the camera, at my in-home photography sessions we’ll get you playing games together. Silly, simple games everyone can join in that’ll get you all having fun together and being yourselves. I want the first thing you see when you look at the photos to be your love and connection as a family.

But the more you look at them, the more you’ll appreciate the subtle touches of care and intent in the way they’re taken. The way you and your family are framed perfectly in the shot, the details of your home in the background, the way the light falls.

So while I don’t want it to feel like a photoshoot, I’ll definitely suggest places to sit, or guide you towards the best light. Because those little tweaks will be the difference between “aww look at us”, and “oh wow! Look at us!”

You’ve spent so long creating a home that’s yours. Walls in the perfect colour, picked from swatches of a hundred discarded shades. Things you picked up on your travels, and cute little finds from back-alley shops.

And then came the avalanche of colour and clutter. Rogue toys under sofas, drawings on fridge doors, endless Lego underfoot. ‘The rug from that place’ became ‘the rug where they took their first steps’. Walls in that perfect shade now imbued with memories, and warmed by life and laughter. With my in-home family photography, I want to give you photos that capture both. The simple moments of love that fill your every day, framed beautifully in the house they’ve made a home.

If you’d like to book your family in for an at-home photography session in North London, I’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch today.

My London at-home family photoshoots are:

01. Gently guided, relaxed, fun and natural

02. Child led (happy children make for the best photos!)

03. Focused on your love and connection as a family

04. Subtly styled in harmony with your home

Hi, I’m Melissa…

… cat lover, travel-obsessed mum of two, and an in-home family photographer in London.

I live a happy life in North London with my family, in a little terraced house we renovated from scratch ourselves. This is me and my eldest as a baby, in the kitchen my husband and I designed and built before she was born. It’s also the same spot in which my youngest took her first steps, and where they now chase each other around the kitchen island together as they get older. I know from these experiences how imbued with memories your home is, and how important it is to capture that for you and your children.

And I love how, as an in-home family photographer here in London, I get to be invited into your own little world for a while. To see a world only a few people ever get to see, and capture you and your family in the beautiful world you call home.

If you love my work and think we’d get along, get in touch today and let’s get to know each other.

The Experience

Your London FAMILY AT-HOME PHOTOSHOOT journey starts here…

As soon as you know when you might like a session, get in touch. My diary usually books out a few months in advance, particularly on weekends. I generally run my in-home family sessions in the morning around 10am, and the beauty of them is that we can do them at any time of year, in any weather! If you have any concerns about your home’s suitability for a shoot, just get in touch and we can chat about the options.

We’ll have a chat before I start shooting, so I can make friends with the kids and you can all relax a little before I get the camera out. Then we’ll play some games, have a little fun, and create beautiful art together. I’ll guide you towards the best light or suggest places to sit, because lighting and framing are so important. But above all, I want the photos to capture your connection and love for each other as a family. So the less posed the photos are, the better.

Your gallery and slideshow will be ready for viewing a few weeks after your shoot. I’ll check in with you to ask when the most convenient time is, then send it over when you decide is best. Once opened, it will stay active for 72 hours for you to choose and download your included images and decide if you’d like to upgrade. If you decide to do so, it will stay open for a further month for you to download your additional images and choose any products.

‘The Photographs are Amazing’

Melissa took pictures of our family and we absolutely loved it. The session was great, surprisingly easy with two kids. The photographs are amazing and it was a great gift to our families. I would definitely recommend Melissa!

London Family At-Home Photographer

My in-home family photoshoots usually last for around 90-120 minutes, but may be slightly less than this depending on your family (i.e. your children!) I always make sure that we get a good mix of shots before I leave. I also never plan more than one family shoot in a day, so don’t worry, I’ll always have enough time for you.

I get it, kids come with a lot of stuff. And trying to keep it all looking immaculate is like sweeping leaves in a hurricane. So I really don’t expect the place to be spotless, but it’s always a good idea to have a little tidy around if you can. After all, you’ve worked this hard on making your house look beautiful, so let’s show it off a little!

Ah, good question, I’m glad you asked! I want to give you stylish photos that fit perfectly with the style of your home, and I think the wardrobe is a big part of this. So once you’re all booked in, I’ll send you my preparation/styling guides filled with ideas and advice on what to wear. I’m also always happy to have a call or text chat together, so we can work together on a family ‘look’ that will give you the kind of stylish look and feel you’re hoping for. However much guidance you need, I’m here, and I’d love to help.

As a mum of two, I totally get it! You want your kids to be on their best form on the day. But let’s be real, they may have their own plans! This is where my experience as a mum and a family photographer really helps. I’ve captured many families over the years, and no matter what they’re up to it won’t phase me. I’ve experienced lots of different little personalities (as well as two of my own!) so I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve to keep them engaged and entertained.

Absolutely! I’m always happy to do a few photos in the garden. Depending on its size it’s unlikely to be big enough for a full shoot so I would recommend combining it with some in-home shots for a mixed indoor/outdoor shoot, but if you have a particular idea feel free to get in touch for a chat and we can discuss what might work.

Great! Bookings are confirmed with a signed contract and a £50 deposit, with the rest of the base session fee due a week before the shoot. Get in touch and we’ll get you booked in!
